Shooting in Hidden Valley
On January 25, 2017, at approximately 1:22 p.m. a 911 call was received by the Coosa County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center indicating a person had been shot on Coosa County Road 5 in the Hidden Valley Community.
Deputies arrived on scene and found Sylacauga Ambulance and Marble Valley Fire first responders rendering assistance to Charlie Hayes, 63, of Hidden Valley who had sustained a gunshot wound. Mr. Hayes was airlifted to UAB Hospital and later died from his injuries.
The scene was secured by the Sheriff’s Deputies and a preliminary investigation revealed there was a dispute, concerning a dog, between Hayes and Michael Mitchell, 73, of Marble Valley. The investigation is actively ongoing. All findings will be turned over to the 40th Judicial Circuit District Attorney upon completion of the investigation.
